Fun Facts:
These verses have been called the best-known written by an American. The question is... which American authored this amazing poem? Although professor and academic Clement Clarke Moore is believed to be the author of the poem, when it was first published in New York's "Troy Sentinel" in 1823 there was no authorship noted. To this day the family of Henry Livingston, Jr. claim that he is the true author of the poem. No one knows for certain.
This poem first established the physical description of modern Santa Claus: plump, dressed in fur, flowing white beard. In fact, Christmas ideas about St. Nicholas varied greatly from region to region. This poem established a benchmark for Santa Claus and his eight reindeer.
There is an alternate title to this famous poem: A Visit from Saint Nicholas.
